Welcome back to Adapt Recap. It’s October 2024 and I’m going to be covering some of the latest developments by both the Adapt community and Core team.

Starting with updates to core components, the Media component is having a big change as the library which it uses, MediaElement.js, is being increased from version 2 to version 7.

This change brings minor UI changes, but is primarily focused on fixing accessibility issues with the media player, as certain features like video speed and the language caption were not properly accessible.

This upgrade will cause any Vimeo or Youtube videos to no longer work, so if you’re upgrading your courses to this new version, you’ll need to move them across to their respective dedicated components. You can test the Pull Request using the link in the show notes.

Moving on to another new plugin created by Ingancio Cinalli, the Reaction extension. If you’ve ever rolled out e-learning across an organisation, you know that evaluating what learners think about a course is often a key requirement. This extension makes it possible to just do that, by presenting a button in the navigation bar to allow a learner to give a smiley, or upset face as feedback and to write down their thoughts. At the moment this plugin is only configured to work with XAPI, by using the additional xAPI extension, but it could be configured to also work with SCORM or another third party solution like Google Analytics.

Finally, I’ll like to promote the Adapt Unlimited end of year sale, which is going on right now. Adapt Unlimited for those of you who don’t know is an Adapt Authoring Tool hosting service which I run. At the moment plans are 50% off from now, so if you and your team are looking to start using the Adapt Authoring Tool, you can do so for £440, €525 or $600.  If you’re currently self-hosting or using another provider we help migration. Link to a demo is in the show notes.

That wraps up this month's episode. I’m really looking forward to any feedback you can give about the new format. So please feel free to direct any feedback to podcast@adapt.tips

Thanks again and see you next month
