The Adapt framework (FW) is a node app. Content is entered and maintained in JSON files. Technical skills are presupposed.

The Adapt authoring tool (AT) is a GUI program. A graphical user interface has been wrapped around the Adapt framework in order to make it more user friendly.

The Adapt authoring tool is intended to be used to build courses by the same professional roles who use Articulate® 360, Rise®, Adobe® Captivate®, Elucidat®, and other tools.  

The Adapt framework can be used directly and independently of the AT to create e-learning. However, doing so requires technical skills more commonly associated with software developers.

Some team workflows combine building the course structure, theme, and menu in the framework, followed by building out content within the authoring tool.
