Welcome to the first episode of Adapt Recap, August 2024.

If you didn’t catch the announcement last week, this will be a new monthly series, airing on the last Thursday of every month. I’ll be spending 5 to 10 minutes everything that happened in the world of Adapt, covering both the core team and the community’s contributions.

Starting with the Authoring Tool, you may have noticed that since July, there was an error showing with the Text Editor. The Authoring Tool uses CKEditor, which is the middleware used for the Authoring Tool’s text editor, required updating from version 4 to 5.

This change has made a few UI changes to the text editor. However, it’s also brought into question which additional CKEditor features should be added. With various additional features available and the need to support various text attributes such as classes, span and inline styling.

Moving on to community plugins and Ignacio Cinalli has created a new component, the Memory component.

If you saw the recent update to the Adapt Tips plugin checklist, you would have seen that Igancio’s contribution over the last couple of years was a prominent part of the update. He’s been working really hard creating new components and extensions and it’s great to see his passion.

His new component works as a memory game, where you have to reveal images which are hidden and then match pairs together.

I can see it being useful in courses, as learners not only are being tasked with applying their knowledge to pair images but also have a game to remember where they are. I’m certainly looking forward to using this component in future projects. If you want to use the plugin I’ve also included the link to use it yourself.
